The Earth'south surface is constantly changing. These changes mostly occur in very minute ways which over time accumulates to create the world'due south concrete features we observe around us today.

Some of these changes accept thousands of years. When you look around and yous might encounter a mountain, river, plateau, valleys, or rock boulders. These all didn't simply appear suddenly rather most of them had a edifice procedure like building a house.

Slow Versus Fast Changes to the Surface of the Earth

Merely how and what causes these changes to the earth'due south surface?

There are basically 2 types of changes that occur to the globe'due south surface (i) Slow alter and (ii) fast change. Fast changes occur through the actions of earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, etc. while deadening change takes time and has a process.

The focus of this article is the slow change since its action is carried out on all parts of the Earth's surface.

There are 2 main causes of change to be mentioned here and they are water action and wind activeness. The processes used by these actions are known as weathering and erosion.

Water Erosion

Rainfall (or precipitation) affects erosion and weathering in two ways. Related: Physical and Chemic Weathering of Rocks

First, precipitation dissolves chemicals in the atmosphere and this solution causes chemic reactions on the various surfaces information technology falls on thereby weakening those surfaces through this action.

Water in the class of water ice also causes significant landform changes especially in the temperate regions. This occurs through a process called water ice or frost wedging.

This essentially means water lodging in cracks and crags of rock go frozen and since frozen h2o expands information technology forces the crack to get wider and ofttimes times dislodging office of the rock surface.

Wind Erosion

Wind action follows a an nearly similar pattern that is the air current carries particles into the air and those particles are non smooth but ragged in nature therefore as the air current currents drags them and often times slam them against surfaces they tend to wear down the surfaces they come in contact with yielding a new landscape over fourth dimension.
